War Crimes Documentation Initiative (WCDI)

Congratulations to Prof. Yuma Totani on the launch of the War Crimes Documentation Initiative (WCDI), a suite of digital tools illuminating Japanese war crimes across Asia and the Pacific in World War II.

Developed in collaboration with librarians and GIS specialists in UHM’s Hamilton Library, the release makes complex primary sources—among them an interactive ArcGIS map tracing violence against ethnic Chinese communities, a TEI-encoded, text-searchable archive of Gen. Imamura Hitoshi’s 1947 statements from Rabaul, and a forthcoming StoryMap on the Sook Ching massacre—accessible to students, scholars, and the public.
