Blood Work: Reading and Roundtable
Assistant professor of writing at Leeward Community College, Donald Carreira Ching, will read from his recently published collection, Blood Work and Other Stories (Bamboo Ridge Press 2025).
The event, moderated by UH Mānoa English professor Craig Howes, will also include a roundtable discussion with:
- Della Au Belatti, Hawaiʻi State Representative, District 26
- Aiko Yamashiro, Executive Director, Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities
Together, they will explore themes of cost of living in Hawaiʻi, housing, climate change, sustainable economies, substance use/prevention, and the impacts/response(s) to these issues for Hawaiʻi’s people as well as the role of writing and storytelling in fostering connection and understanding.
The colloquium will be held on Thursday, October 16th, from 3:00-4:30pm in Kuykendall 410 and is presented by Bamboo Ridge Press and UH Mānoa Creative Writing.
