What is Hawaiʻi Educational Talent Search (HETS)?

HETS is a TRiO program funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. It is FREE to all eligible full-time students enrolled at Keaʻau, Pahoa, and Kaʻū High (KKP) Schools.

Program Goals:

  • Grade to grade promotion
  • On time graduation from high school
  • Pursuing post secondary education at any two or four-year college or university or enroll at a technical or vocational school.

Who is eligible for HETS?

  • Students must be enrolled at KKP schools
  • Students must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Preference is given to qualifying low-income and first generation whose natural or adoptive parent(s) have not earned a college or university degree
  • Student cannot be more than 26 years of age

How to apply?

See any HETS Program Coordinator or your grade level counselor for an application. Be sure to complete and answer all questions, and get the proper signatures.

HETS serves students grades 9-12 at Keaʻau, Pahoa & Kau High Schools.
