Presidential

  • Award Amount: Full tuition (for 2 years) + $4,000/year stipend + $2,000 one-time travel grant
  • Residency Status: Hawai’i resident
  • Class Standing: Junior
  • GPA: 3.7
  • Applicant: Transfer or current Mānoa student
  • Scholarship Application Deadline: March 1

Transfer Merit

  • Award Amount: $2,000/year (for 2 years)
  • Residency Status: Hawai’i resident, U.S. non-resident (including WUE), or international non-resident
  • Class Standing: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior (with 24 or more transferable credits)
  • GPA: 3.3
  • Applicant: Transfer from a UH Community College
  • Scholarship Application Deadline: March 1

Presidential and Transfer Merit Scholarship Application Checklist

  1. Get Accepted by UH Mānoa and Have Your UH ID Number
    Deadline: March 1, 2023

    UH ID numbers are provided to students in their admissions acceptance letters. Students applying from a University of Hawai’i system school who have a UH ID number may apply for scholarships prior to being accepted. Admissions decisions take approximately 6-8 weeks from the time of application submission. To meet scholarship deadlines, you must apply for admissions and submit an Admissions Application Fee (if applicable).
    Transfer Application Type:

    • Traditional Transfer application deadline is January 15, 2023
    • Auto Admit and Ka’ie’ie application deadline is February 15, 2023

    Note: students with an incomplete Admissions Application may be ineligible to apply for these scholarships.

  2. Submit a UH Mānoa Presidential and Transfer Merit Scholarship Application
    Deadline: March 1, 2023 (4:00 pm HST)

    Students without a UH ID number prior to this date are ineligible to apply for the Presidential and Transfer Merit Scholarships.
    Presidential and Transfer Merit Scholarships are submitted in the Scholarship Application Portal.
  3. Attach and Submit Transcript(s)
    Deadline: March 1, 2023 (4:00 pm HST)

    Unofficial or official transcripts are attached and submitted in the Scholarship Application Portal.
  4. Submit New Warrior Scholarship Essay
    Deadline: March 1, 2023 (4:00 pm HST)

    You are required to write an essay (600 words maximum) answering a specific question provided below and must be written and submitted in the Scholarship Application Portal. You are invited to think outside of the box, and to be creative, while demonstrating and communicating a good grasp of the topic, critical thinking, and clarity. Showcase who you are, and your specific passions and interests.

    Essay question: Scholars are expected to have the motivation and intellectual curiosity to take on advanced research and/or creative work . Describe what your dream project is in your major, and what experiences and strengths you have or hope to develop in order to achieve that goal.

  5. Submit your Letter(s) of Recommendation
    Deadline: March 8, 2023 (4:00 pm HST)

    You are encouraged to double-check with your recommenders to ensure Letter(s) of Recommendation are submitted prior to the deadline March 8, 2023. Recommender(s) must attach and submit Letter(s) of Recommendation into the Scholarship Application Portal.

  6. Apply for RAPS
    Students applying for the Presidential Scholarship must also complete additional requirements indicated in the Regents and Presidential Scholarship (RAPS) website.
  7. Apply for FAFSA
    The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will help increase one’s chances for federal aid.
