AGduino

Ardunio Board Displaying Text
Precision agriculture refers to the idea of managing farm decisions based on data gathering and analysis. The goal of the project was to provide youth with tools to create agriculture sensors for school gardens that receive information on moisture, nitrogen levels, yield, pH, etc. Youth were provided skills training in programming Arduino boards, a background in agriculture (specifically plant and soil science), and activities centered around entrepreneurship.

Day 1: Moisture Sensor Script
Day 2: Display Script
Day 3: Water Pump

Additional supplies are needed to connect the water pump. Check with your instructor. Students will need to play with to get the system working properly:

  • Time interval between samples/decision making (if done too frequently then overwatering is possible since it takes time for water to migrate through soil to the probe)
  • Time to actually water when the pump is told to turn on (Number of seconds to water, again so that over-watering is avoided.)
