The CSAS Fall Gathering brings our community together to celebrate the successes of the latest student recipients of our J. Watumull Scholarship for the Study of India.
It will be held on Friday, September 8th from 2-4 pm in the Tokioka Room (Moore 319). Please RSVP by September 4th, 2023 to help us best plan for refreshments.
Scholarship winners Kavya Bhagawatula (MFA student in Dance) and Alia Jeraj (MA student in Asian Studies) will present on the projects that this scholarship supported this past summer.
Kavya Bhagawatula studied Bharatnatyam dance in Chennai, and will present on her production entitled “Surya (The Sun): The Source of Light.” Kavya Bhagawatula is pursuing an MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.
Alia Jeraj studied Urdu in Lucknow, and will present on “Urdu Language and Poetry in Lucknow.” Alia Jeraj is an MA student in the department of Asian Studies at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, researching Shi’a women’s songs of mourning. Outside of academia, Alia is an educator, performer, and outdoor-enthusiast.
