2023 Himalayan Studies Fellowships
The Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies (ANHS) is pleased to announce its annual Himalayan Studies Fellowships for the support of short-term research or other scholarly projects that will advance knowledge of the Himalaya-Karakoram-Hindukush regions. Projects may be from any scholarly discipline, addressing any aspect of Himalayan Studies. The ANHS offers two $1500 fellowships, one for pre-PhD students and one for scholars who have earned their PhD. The application deadline is 15 February, 2023 with an anticipated award date of 15 March, 2023.

American Institute of Bangladesh Studies fellowships for U.S. citizens
Application deadline: January 20, 2023 (TODAY!)
All fellowships are for research involving Bangladesh and must be a minimum of two months, but no longer than twelve months pending available funding. Scholars from all academic disciplines are eligible.

Jagdish P. Sharma Memorial Scholarship, UHM
This department is currently accepting applications with a deadline of March 1, 2022.
The scholarship assists graduate students enrolled in the Colleges of Arts, Languages & Letters (CALL) or the College of Social Sciences (CSS) at UH Manoa who are pursuing studies on the South Asia region and its people. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (tuition, books, fees, etc.). Average award amount: three awards annually of $5,000 each.

The Rocher Foundation offers an In-Residence Teaching and Research Fellowship in
Classical Indology for new PhD holders
Application Deadline: January 16, 2023
For purposes of the Rocher Postdoctoral Fellowships, “Classical Indology” is defined as the humanistic study of texts and related materials in Sanskrit, the Prakrits, Pali, the premodern Dravidian languages, and other premodern Indian languages, as well as the languages of their extended cultural spheres and roles, for example Persian and Kawi. Related arts and material cultures are also within the purview of the program, as is the historiography of Indology’s development and interaction with the study of other cultures.
The Rocher Fellowship is intended to provide recent PhDs in classical Indology with an opportunity to revise their dissertations and prepare them in publishable form, and/or to undertake a new, post-dissertation research project.

The Banyan Impact Fellowship is a fully-funded, interdisciplinary experiential learning program that places young professionals from India and the US in service with communities across India. Through collaboration and capacity-building, Fellows and local communities exchange knowledge and skills to steer projects that advance social and economic development. Fellows learn about grassroots development and inclusive leadership through fieldwork, mentorship, and conferences over the course of the program.

The Department of Art and Art History seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art History. This department seeks scholars whose research engages with underrepresented archives and repertoires in the arts and whose methodological or theoretical approaches expand traditional geographic and/or temporal articulations of artistic canons and/or traditions. The Expanding Approaches Initiative places high value on inter- and cross-disciplinary thinking, public humanities, and creative practice components of a scholar’s portfolio. The position requires relocation to Austin, TX. Applicants are particularly encouraged who have expertise in the art and material culture of areas interconnected by the Indian Ocean, the Silk Routes and other transregional historical trade routes of Asia.The University has rich resources to support such work, including world-class library and archival holdings in Asian Studies and Middle Eastern Studies and affiliated academic programs in History, Anthropology, Classics, and other disciplines – a collective scholarly network offering wide-ranging coursework and training in over a dozen languages.

The Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for an open rank position to fill the Bhagvan Vimalnath Endowed Chair in Jain Studies and South Asian Religions. We seek a rigorous and imaginative specialist in Jain Studies and South Asian Religions with a wide range of knowledge of Jain philosophy, religion, history, and culture who will complement and enhance our research and teaching strengths as one of the preeminent programs in South Asian Religions in the country. Research foci may include but are not limited to: sex, gender, and bodily identities; subject formations and transformations; somatic disciplines and dietary regimens; and social and environmental ethics based on the principle of nonviolence.
