The ceremony is scheduled as follows:

Undergraduate Ceremony Advanced Degree Ceremony
  • Ceremony begins at 9:00 a.m.
  • End time: 12:00 p.m.
  • Faculty arrive at 7:30 a.m.
  • Speaker: Sam Kass
  • Est. No. of Participants: 1200
  • Est. Length of Ceremony: 3 hours hours
  • Ceremony begins at 3:00 p.m.
  • End time: 5:00 p.m.
  • Faculty arrive at 1:30 p.m.
  • Speaker: David Ige
  • Est. No. of Participants: 800
  • Est. Length of Ceremony: 2 hours hours

To participate in the commencement ceremony, please register online to ensure that you are included in the procession.

Regalia Availability: The bookstore has faculty regalia available for purchase. Tailored special order regalia is also available. Please allow six weeks for delivery of special order regalia. A limited amount of rental regalia is available from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs free of charge. You may reserve your regalia when you register to participate. The deadline to request regalia is April 30, 2015. Regalia will be available for pick-up in Hawaiʻi Hall 209 from May 4, 2015. An email reminder will be sent to those who have rented regalia.

A demonstration on how to wear the cap, gown,and hood is available here. We strongly recommend participants view it before commencement day.

Parking: Plan to arrive early, as considerable congestion surrounding the campus is expected. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. UH Shuttles will be available from various locations throughout the campus area, including faculty housing. Please check the UH Commencement Transportation webpage for more information.

Commencement Reception: The Chancellor invites you to join the reception for our commencement speakers and distinguished guests in the Wong Hospitality Room in the Stan Sheriff Center at 7:30 a.m. for the Undergraduate Ceremony and 1:30 p.m. for the Advanced Degree Ceremony

Assemble for the Procession:

PhD faculty sponsors report by 2:00 p.m. to the Stan Sheriff Center loading dock area to assemble with the PhD procession

Faculty who are not PhD faculty sponsors will line up at 2:30 p.m. behind the Stage Party (Deans).

Faculty Procession and Seating Section: Faculty will proceed into the arena following the student procession and will be seated above the stage party in the upper seating areas. Faculty Marshals will lead the procession. Please be on time in order to assemble and process with the faculty party.

Recession: Following the ceremony, faculty will follow the stage party out of the arena and line the hall along the Stan Sheriff Center exit to applaud the graduates as they exit the arena.
