Thomas Chock

Born and raised in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, Thomas Chock ventured into filmmaking at an early age. His formal film education began at the Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawaiʻi where he produced and directed award-winning short films that have screened at international film festivals.

Thomas later graduated as a Directing Fellow from the American Film Institute, where he received the Daniel and Dorothea Petrie Award.

In his commercial ventures, Thomas co-founded a production company which was awarded the UH First Place Undergraduate Business Plan. Thomas won the Mea Noʻeau Award from the Association of Independent Commercial Production for his Scion Hawaii commercial.

Thomas currently teaches film production at the University of Hawaiʻi, for which he was twice nominated for an Excellence in Teaching Award. He applies his many years of experience toward the advancement of film production in Hawaiʻi, through both the training of the next generation of local talent, and through the production of his own films that aim to share Hawaiʻi’s beauty with a global audience.
