Jialin “Sunny” Sun has been with the Center for Chinese Studies since 2007. She specializes in outreach programs that promote the learning of Chinese language and culture, including Chinese Mandarin classes through the UHM Outreach College, teacher training & professional development, international faculty & scholars exchange, study abroad, and community outreach programs. She has also created and lead collaborative programs with schools, both in Hawai‘i and on the U.S. mainland, featuring international student exchange, Chinese language teacher training, program and curriculum development, and extracurricular activities that promote Chinese language studies and bilingual studies. One of her regular and continuous flagship projects at the Center for Chinese Studies is to oversee the STARTALK program, funded by the National Security Agency. She is an active liaison with  domestic and international partners and various funding agencies, and is an advocate for world language education.
