Pākē ʻOhana: Tracking Chinese Ancestry in Hawai’i through Primary Sources, A Filmmaker’s Journey of Discovery

Through a rich trove of archival sources, including Hawaiian language newspapers, or nūpepa, filmmaker Robin Lung constructs a colorful story of Lee Ahlo and his wife Lahela Kehuokalani, shining a light on the intertwined histories of Chinese and Hawaiians in the late 19th century and the tumultuous political changes that shaped their families’ futures.
