In addition to maintaining a strong interest in all aspects of the history of the Chinese in Southeast Asia, professor Kelley also applies his background in Chinese history and litertature to the study of the Vietnamese past. In particular, professor Kelley enjoys delving into the vast quantity of extant Vietnamese writings in classical Chinese to examine Vietnamese history, literature and religion.
