Description: This course introduces students to the basic structure and culture of contemporary Chinese society. We explore a variety of social issues Chinese society currently faces, including economic development, political reform, migration, gender, education, ethnic relations, religion, environment, popular culture and China’s relation to the world etc. We will learn to analyze these issues from various social science perspectives, and we will use active learning activities to compare China with other societies such as U.S. This course is an upgrade from the previous Sociology of China. All students are welcome.
