Aloha kākou!
As Dean, it's my distinct pleasure to introduce you to a college that truly anchors the liberal arts at UH Mānoa. CALL is a vibrant hub for exploring the arts, humanities, languages, and area studies, all with a rigorous and special emphasis on Hawaiʻi, the Pacific, and Asia.
Within our sixteen academic departments, the School of Pacific and Asian Studies, and numerous national research and resource centers, you'll discover an incredible range of strengths. From the creative arts to a comprehensive focus on the study of languages—first, second, heritage, and world—we offer a unique educational journey. We pride ourselves on blending the core liberal arts with exciting, emerging interdisciplinary collaborations both within CALL and across other Mānoa programs.
At CALL, our mission is to provide a high-quality education to both our undergraduate and graduate students. This education is built on proven and innovative teaching methods and enriched by the original scholarship of our faculty. We prioritize student learning and original research, with our faculty leading their fields through cutting-edge performances, publications, and other creative and scholarly work.
Our graduates are exceptionally well-prepared, drawing upon the best of established disciplines, contemporary scholarship, artistic practice, and new, emerging interdisciplinary fields like sustainability, language and technology, and digital media. We offer a dynamic and unique learning environment that is deeply responsive to our awareness of place and history, and to the ever-shifting opportunities and challenges of citizenship—locally, nationally, and globally.
CALL graduates are skilled in oral and written communication, critical thinking, communal inquiry, research, multilingualism, design thinking, and creative practice. These essential attributes equip them to thrive in today's constantly evolving workforce. We are dedicated to inspiring the young people of today to become the leaders of tomorrow.
I invite you to explore our website and discover the many opportunities awaiting you at the College of Arts, Languages & Letters.
