Marine Option Program Students Aid in Discovery of Shipwreck
Research ship stumbles on shipwreck while diving in Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
Six Marine Option Program students were aboard the Hi’ialakai in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands when a three-person dive team found the Mission San Miguel, an oil tanker that disappeared 60 years ago and has remained untouched since. Rebecca Weible (who was also a member of the dive team), Tate Wester, Kanoe Steward, Julia Rose, Kalani Quiocho, and Kaily Pascoe were the students who played a part in the discovery of a vital World War II tanker.
