The SLOs for the PhD program are designed to assess a student's potential for original research and fieldwork in the field of professional music. They include: Students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of research, scholarly reading comprehension and writing techniques.

2. Produce original scholarship (including research and music) at advanced levels.

3. Gain the skills, knowledge, and training necessary for professional teaching at the university level.

4. Express advanced ideas in respective areas of music history, literature, theory, and education.

The SLOs in the PhD degree are designed to assess a student's potential for success in the field of professional music. Students are assessed through written and oral examinations and assignments, public performances, and juried performances.

All graduate information is currently being examined as we go through our national accreditation process through NASM (National Association of Schools of Music). We are putting together figures and statistics and hope to have a complete report soon.

Our graduate students are making excellent progress and proving to be competitive in the field.

We use assessment information to account for accreditation, and also to constantly evaluate our programs. Assessment for the PhD curriculum allows us to gather data regarding student success and to track student progress throughout the coursework.

This can include insights about assessment procedures, teaching and learning, program aspects and so on.

We continue to be pleased with the level of performance of our PhD students.

We are examining our PhD SLOs and curricula in accordance with our national accreditation association (NASM). We hope to use the information to support the national standards set forth by this association.
