10) For the assessment question(s) and/or assessment goal(s) stated in Question #5:
Summarize the actual results.

The following is a summary of faculty evaluators’ comments for each SLO.

Effective Communication:

While some comments included that the paper was written in a clear and organized manner, other comments pointed out that students can communicate their idea in a more clear, concise, and organized manner.

Critical and Creative Thinking:

This area needed most improvement as students could focus more on main issues and consider more various perspectives when analyzing the case.

Knowledge and Global Perspective:

While students put together substantial amount of information into this case analysis, students still needed improvement in broadening their world view and being more relevant to current issues.

11) State how the program used the results or plans to use the results. Please be specific.

Based on the comments of the faculty evaluators, students’ performance for SLOs 1, 3, and 4 were not satisfactory. These findings were discussed with the UHM assessment specialists, and we were advised to check if the guidelines for the case analysis to students align well with SLOs 1, 3, and 4. In other words, we need to see if the case guidelines have specific direction for students to address the SLO related issues.

During the coming school year, we will check the case analysis guidelines to see if they align well with SLOs.

12) Beyond the results, were there additional conclusions or discoveries?
This can include insights about assessment procedures, teaching and learning, program aspects and so on.

Implementing the assessment cycle for the TIM program is progressing. This trial assessment did point out specific ways to improve the curriculum that TIM faculty members can work on. It will be interesting to see how we can detect improvement in student performance in the future assessment.

13) Other important information.
Please note: If the program did not engage in assessment, please explain. If the program created an assessment plan for next year, please give an overview.
