1) List your program's student learning outcomes (SLOs).

Students can [insert "action verb"] [insert learning statement].

Example:

Students can compare and contrast major economic theories.

2) Where are your program's SLOs published?

3) Upload your program's current curriculum map(s) as a PDF.

Curriculum Map File(s) from 2009:

4) What percentage of courses have the course SLOs explicitly stated on the course syllabus, department website, or other publicly available document? (Check one)

0%
1-50%
51-80%
81-99%
100%

5) State the SLO(s) that was Assessed, Targeted, or Studied

None.

6) State the Assessment Question(s) and/or Goal(s) of Assessment Activity

What are appropriate SLOs and how does our curriculum align with those SLOs?

GOAL: Determine SLOs, create a curriculum map for both TOUR TRANS & HOSP

Because assessment of student learning is broad and multi-faceted, any of these questions are appropriate answers to question #6:

  • How well are our majors achieving our program outcomes?
  •  Which course syllabi address our program outcomes?
  • What do students think about overall program quality?
  • How can we use the results from a previous assessment project?
  • Are students prepared when they enter our 300-level courses? What are their grades in the pre-requisite courses?
  • What types of jobs do our majors expect to get after they graduate?
  • Should we revise our program outcomes?
  • Are our courses aligned with program outcomes? Do students have sufficient opportunities to practice lab techniques so they are more likely to meet our expectations?
  • What rubric will work to evaluate student projects?
  • What examples of student work can serve as “anchors” or “benchmarks” for high, average, and unacceptable quality?

7) State the Type(s) of Evidence Gathered

Examples of evidence:

  • Student essays
  • Exam results
  • Portfolios
  • Observations of presentations
  • Syllabi
  • Student perceptions/self-reports
  • Alumni perceptions/self-reports

8) State How the Evidence was Interpreted, Evaluated, or Analyzed

Examples

  • faculty team applied a rubric
  • faculty applied a scoring key
  • graduate students analyzed survey results using descriptive statistics
  • assessment committee applied a checklist to syllabi

9) State How Many Pieces of Evidence Were Collected

Examples:

  • 12 pieces of student work
  • 45 alumni surveys
  • syllabi from all 300- and 400-level courses (38 collected)

10) Summarize the Actual Results

Example:

  • 78% of the students scored at an acceptable level (3 or higher)

11) Briefly Describe the Distribution and Discussion of Results

Example:

Assessment Coordinator emailed results to department faculty. Faculty discussed at a faculty meeting.

12) Describe Conclusions and Discoveries

Example:

Students are adequately prepared to conduct case studies but they fell short on policy analysis.

13) Use of Results/Program Modifications: State How the Program Used the Results --or-- Explain Planned Use of Results

Example:

Overall, faculty were satisfied with the results. However, they decided to include an additional writing assignment in the 325 and 425 courses that dealt with policy analysis.

14) Reflect on the Assessment Process

Example:

Faculty need to know prior to the start of the semester which assignments will be collected for program assessment. That way, they can add that to their syllabus or assignment guidelines so students are appropriately informed.

15) Other Important Information

16) FOR DISTANCE PROGRAMS ONLY: Explain how your program/department has adapted its assessment of student learning in the on-campus program to assess student learning in the distance education program.

This question should be answered ONLY if there is an approved distance program.

17) FOR DISTANCE PROGRAMS ONLY: Summarize the actual student learning assessment results that compare the achievement of students in the on-campus program to students in the distance education program.

This question should be answered ONLY if there is an approved distance program.
