10) For the assessment questions/goals stated in Question #5, summarize the actual results.

     For Measure A

54/55 (98.2%) of new students entering the BSW program in 2015 attended orientation.

  • One student is on LOA and was unable to attend an Orientation session.

      For Measure B

86.8% (99/114) of BSW student files have an academic plan form that appears to be updated.

[Note:  91.2% (104/114) of BSW student files have an Academic Plan form.  Of those, 95.2% (99/104) are current.

96.6% (57/59) of continuing students have Academic Plan forms vs. 85.5% (47/55) of new students.  Most new students           have only met w/ their advisor once, so we expect this percentage to increase with future meetings.

        Assigned Academic Advisor

Measure C.

Among 76 respondents, 44 students reported that they requested assistance in examining academic goals, and 95.5% (42 students) reported that they received assistance; 25 students reported that they requested assistance in examining professional goals, and all of them (100%) reported that they received assistance.

Measure D.

30 students reported that they requested assistance in identifying and utilizing appropriate resources, and 96.7% of these (29 students) reported that they received assistance.

Other Advisor:

C. Among 76 respondents, 17 students reported that they requested other advisor his/her assistance in examining academic goals, and 94.1% of these (16 students) reported that they received assistance; 15 students reported that they requested assistance in examining professional goals, and 93.3% of these (14 students) reported that they received assistance.

D. 10 students reported that they requested assistance in identifying and utilizing appropriate resources, and 90% of these (9 students) reported that they received assistance.

11) What was learned from the results?

Measure B:  Further advisor training is needed to ensure that all students have an academic plan in place.  Most academic plans are kept current, at least as of the most recent advising period.

Measures C & D: It appears that almost all students who seek assistance will be successful in attaining help from either their advisor or another advisor.

12) State how the program used the results or plans to use the results. Please be specific.

Measure B:  Further targeted advisor training is needed to ensure that all students have an academic plan in place. Student Services will meet individually w/ advisors who lag in completing plans for their advisees files.

Furthermore, it may be useful to survey the BSW faculty to find out if they have ideas on how they can be more attentive to their documentation with students. Can the documents be better streamlined or available in another format?

13) Reflect on the assessment process. Is there anything related to assessment procedures your program would do differently next time? What went well?

The BSW cohorts are steadily increasing so that it is becoming more challenging for the BSW faculty to stay ahead of the necessary documentation. While there are few faculty advisors overseeing all BSW students, we might think about other strategies (e.g. student evals.) to obtain more targeted feedback from students about their understanding of their academic plan.

14) If the program did not engage in assessment activities, please explain.
Or, if the program did engage in assessment activities, please add any other important information here.
