1) Students identify the which engineering major they are interested in pursuing and understand the 4 year plan (available on the check sheets) to complete that engineering degree.

2) Students indentify educational and career interest/goals and learn about the project experiences and other resources that the college has to offer that can help them develop those interests and goals.

3) Students take ownership of their academic plan by filling out their tentative plans on their advising forms before meeting with the advisors each semester.

3) Provide the program's activity map or other graphic that illustrates how program activities/services align with program student outcomes. Please upload it as a PDF.

No map submitted.

4) Did your program engage in any program assessment activities between June 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014? (e.g., establishing/revising outcomes, aligning activities to outcomes, collecting evidence, interpreting evidence, using results, revising the assessment plan, creating surveys, etc.)

Yes
No (skip to question 14)

5) For the period between June 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014: State the assessment question(s) and/or assessment goals. Include the student outcomes that were targeted, if applicable.

Established new learning outcomes. As listed in Question 1.

Started an advising survey that students may anonymously fill out that assesses the following:

  • student view of the advisors knowledge of the program and resources
  • student view of how well advisors are able to help them with their issues
  • student view of how confident they felt in the major/career choice after advising

6) State the type(s) of evidence gathered to answer the assessment question and/or meet the assessment goals that were given in Question #5.

Currently surveys on the effectiveness of advising and the advisors are collected by office staff and recorded into a worksheet by semester. In the past year, surveys have been collected for one advisor in the office. As of Sept. 2014, we have started collecting surveys for both advisors in the office.

7) State how many persons submitted evidence that was evaluated. If applicable, please include the sampling technique used.

60 students have submitted surveys about one of the advisors in the office. The anonymous surveys were open to all students who came in for an advising appointment.

8) Who interpreted or analyzed the evidence that was collected? Check all that apply.

Program faculty/staff member(s)
Faculty/staff committee
Ad hoc faculty/staff group
Director or department chairperson
Persons or organization outside the university
Students (graduate or undergraduate)

Used qualitative methods on interview, focus group, or other open-ended response data
Scored exams/tests/quizzes
Used a rubric or scoring guide
Used professional judgment (no rubric or scoring guide used)
External organization/person analyzed data (e.g., Social Science Research Institute)

10) For the assessment questions/goals stated in Question #5, summarize the actual results.

11) What was learned from the results?

12) State how the program used the results or plans to use the results. Please be specific.

13) Reflect on the assessment process. Is there anything related to assessment procedures your program would do differently next time? What went well?

There is a need to get more students to fill out the survey. We will add more questions that will help us determine if we are reaching our new outcomes.

14) If the program did not engage in assessment activities, please explain.
Or, if the program did engage in assessment activities, please add any other important information here.

We are still working on processing our data for the one advisor. And look forward to getting in more data in the future for all advisors in our office.
