Strategic Planning & Assessment

Mission Statement

The mission of the Assessment and Curriculum Support Center (ACSC) is to improve student learning through academic program assessment. Assessment is faculty-driven and faculty-supervised. It involves establishing student learning outcomes, measuring/observing and documenting the extent to which outcomes are achieved, and finding ways to improve programs. The Center’s activities include the following:

A. Interactive workshops (including workshops for deans, chairs, faculty)
B. Collaborate and provide assistance in regard to learning assessment
C. Events/initiatives for students, faculty, administrators (includes Assessment Leadership Institute, poster exhibit)
D. Conduct research and evaluation studies (including co-authoring and sharing Center-generated reports as models)
E. Disseminate good assessment practices and resources (including how-tos, tips, strategies, exemplars)
F. Compile and report on degree program and campus learning assessment status (including the reports that serve as evidence of a program outcome)

Outcomes

  1. Faculty members are aware of the scholarship of teaching, learning, and assessment.
  2. Faculty members employ good assessment practices, moving toward context-specific practices (e.g., for their discipline) and equitable and culturally-responsive assessment.
  3. Academic degree programs and the institution complete the learning assessment cycle, which includes faculty members using assessment results to improve student learning.
  4. Department leaders and administrators promote student learning assessment practices to guide collaborative curriculum reflection, planning and enhancement.
  5. The campus community (faculty members, administrators, staff, students) perceives program-level assessment as supporting student learning.
