The Center for Indo-Pacific Affairs at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa recently hosted a workshop entitled "Women, Peace, and Security in the Quad’s Commitment to a Free and Open Indo-Pacific" at the East-West Center.
UHM Asian Studies alumna, Hannah Butler (MAIA, 2025), in her role as project manager, organized and managed the workshop preparation and on-site execution. She corralled speakers and managed conference logistics, ensured the speakers' presentations ran smoothly, and operated the workshop's simultaneous online participants and speakers.
This workshop brought together an international group of experts and practitioners to explore gender, diplomacy, and peace in the Indo-Pacific. The workshop featured speakers from Australia, Japan, India, Indonesia, Tonga, the Solomon Islands, and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Topics ranged from the economic impact of women to the disproportionate allocation of disaster relief to women's role in peacemaking in the region.
