UHM Asian Studies alumni Robert York (MA, 2014) and Xiaoyi Ze (MA, 2013) have co-published an article that was recently published in the October 2025 edition of "Issues & Insights," released by Pacific Forum.
In their article, "Chinese Views on Korean Unification," they surveyed 18 Chinese experts—based inside and out of China—on the Korean Peninsula and the PRC’s foreign policy priorities. The goal was to gain a clearer insight into the PRC perspective on North Korea, Korean unification, and practical measures that may be implemented to foster unification. This project, sponsored by the UniKorea Foundation in Seoul, revealed more of Chinese experts’ views on peninsula dynamics, identified the parties with the greatest fault/responsibility for the ongoing standoff, and examined whether specific potential actions would worsen or lessen tension on the peninsula.
