In Spring Semester 2025, Dr. Anna Stirr was on leave from Asian Studies to pursue a fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.
Working on a translation and multimedia project about music and dance in Nepal, she led a US- and Nepal-based team in preparing translations, musical transcriptions, and audio and video recordings based on the works of Nepali musicologist Subi Shah (1929-2008).
A portion of her work is featured in "Soundscapes and Scholarship". In this video, part of the Institute Instances series, she reflects on her project and her time at the Institute. "Anna Stirr, Elizabeth and J. Richardson Dilworth Member in the School of Historical Studies (2024–25), explores the rich world of Nepali musicology. She also reflects on Institute for Advanced Study’s own unique soundscape, from the distinctive birdsong to the lively atmosphere that fosters deep scholarly exchange."
