Project Title
Historical texts about ice and snow in Hawaii
Project Description
Early expeditioners reported perennial snow on Mauna Kea and abundant ice on Mauna Loa. Today, conditions on both summits are drier. The changes may represent a systematic shift in climate since the end of the Little Ice Age. A thorough survey of historical texts may reveal the state of snow and ice on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa in the 18th and 19th century.
