Selected Studies

Selected Studies is the lower division component of the Honors Program (freshmen and sophomores).  Students in Selected Studies challenge themselves academically and fulfill their general education requirements by taking our A-section and Honors courses.  Students in this program also have the opportunity to earn the Sophomore Honors Award by fulfilling these requirements; it is a distinction that earns a certificate of achievement and a special notation on the transcript.

Selected Studies Curriculum

Selected Studies students are required to take at least two A-section and two Honors courses.  A-section courses are sections of regular classes reserved for Honors students and usually cover the material in more depth than their regular equivalents.  Honors courses are special seminar courses which are part of an innovative “inquiry-based” curriculum designed to introduce students to research and creative work at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
