Before arriving in Honolulu, I worked as a Biologist at NIH. At the Clinical Center’s Nuclear Medicine Department, we analyzed radiation-induced DNA damage and developed sequence-specific gene targeting with triplex-forming oligonucleotides. At NIAID’s Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Immunology, we investigated CD4+ T cell activation and tolerance in a mouse model of autoimmune disease. After twelve years at NIH, I enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Tropical Medicine at the University of Hawaii in order to transition to more human disease-focused research.

Interests & Hobbies
After completing the five-month AIDS Marathon Training Program, I finished the 2003 Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans, raising funds for the Whitman-Walker Clinic, which provides medical and support services to HIV/AIDS patients in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. I also tutored middle school students in Kensington, MD through the SPARK program. Other interests include travel, cultural arts, theater, and dance. I am currently a Student Affiliate with the East-West Center.
