Program Requirements

The program of study is planned as follows:

Term 1 - Multi-day Orientation in Honolulu; Cultural and Community Integration; and Online Coursework

ETEC 501 (1 credit) Technology for Distance Students

ITE 401 (3 credits) Introduction to Teaching

ITE 440 (3 credits) Curriculum Implications of Multicultural Education

Term 2 - Online Coursework

EDEF 610 (3 credits) Foundations of Educational Theory

EDEP 631 (3 credits) Adolescence and Education

SPED 445 (3 credits) Educating Exceptional Students in Regular Classrooms

Term 3 - Online Coursework and Local Practicum*

ETEC 442 (3 credits) Computers in Education

ITE 402 (3 credits) Teaching Practicum* (Arranged at students' localities)

ITE 404 (3 credits) Teaching in Subject Field (aka Methods)

*Pending supervisor availability and program chair approval.

Final Term - Student Teaching Residency in Hawai'i

ITE 405 (9 credits) Teaching Residency, On-site in Hawai'i

ITE 406 (3 credits) Seminar in Teaching Residency, Online and On-site

Participants must maintain academic progress and participate in all cohort and program activities.

Service Obligation (scholarship recipients): Graduates must teach in a high-need** school (preferably in Hawai'i) for at least three semesters.
