About the Program

The Online Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Secondary Math and Science Education is offered by the Institute for Teacher Education at the College of Education, University of Hawai'i at Manoa.

Program partners include the Department of Educational Technology and the Technology and Distance Programs at the College Education, and the Hawai'i Department of Education.

Program At A Glance

The program begins with an orientation in Honolulu. This introductory session will be scheduled for three days in January 2010 for Hawai'i residents and extends two additional days for students from outside Hawai'i.

For all students, the orientation will include a program overview, the Technology for Distance Students (ETEC 501) course, and visits to high-need schools in Hawai'i. For students from outside of Hawai'i, the orientation will also include an introduction to Hawai'i culture and practicalities of living in Hawai'i.

The program of study continues with online courses through the following two terms, and concludes in the final term with 12 credits of teaching residency in Hawai'i.

Tuition

The estimated cost of tuition for the program is $10,500 (Hawai'i residents) and $15,500 (non-Hawai'i residents) before fees.

Scholarship and Other Benefits

Admitted students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents may apply for the scholarship up to $9,000 through the LEI Aloha federally funded Connections to Teaching Careers grant project. College of Education Scholarships (up to $2,000) are also available.

Graduates are eligible to apply for a teaching license in secondary education through the Hawai'i Teacher Standards Board.
