SPAM PEER MENTORING

Misson

We believe that meaningful peer-to-peer engagements through mentoring can nurture a supportive community at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa to enhance the social and academic success of all student parents on campus.

Our peer mentoring program provides the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a seasoned UHM student parent to support and encourage all student parents on campus.

SPAM works with various campus partners to nurture a more family, friendly campus in which student parents are honored and respected for the juggling act they perform daily to successfully manage family, work and school.

SPAM Peer Mentors Provide

  • Peer-to-peer guidance and support from a seasoned student parent.

  • Knowledge about the University and the various student parent programs on campus that are relevant to student parents.

  • Information about family friendly spaces on campus, in addition to staff and faculty who are supportive of student parents.

  • Personal tips and guidance on how to balance family life, academic responsibilities and personal commitments as student parents pursue their academic and career goals.

  • Announcements to SPAM sponsored events and other family friendly activities on/off campus to foster a sense of community on a big campus.
