Asian Studies Professor Wins Collaborative Research Grant

June 5, 2014

Congratulations to Anna Stirr, Assistant Professor of Asian Studies, who has won a collaborative research grant from the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation for the project “Music, Dance, and Cultural Revolution Beyond China’s Borders.”  She will be collaborating with colleagues Hsin-Chun Tasaw Lu (Academia Sinica), Tsan-Huang Tsai (Australian National University), and Nomi Dave (University of Virginia).

With this 3-year grant, these four scholars will be looking into the ways interactions with China’s music and dance troupes during the Cultural Revolution period shaped expressions of revolutionary and reactionary aesthetics in Asia and Africa, specifically Guinea, Myanmar, Nepal, and Taiwan.
