Opportunities

 

Here are some opportunities available in state that you might want to look into. Many vet schools look at how much experience you have had with different animals including large, marine, and wildlife animals. Volunteer or intern at any of these places to help you build your resume for vet school:

{Hawaiian Humane Society

Located a couple blocks away from UH campus, the Hawaiian Humane Society is an animal welfare organization that admit all types of animals and does their best in finding a home for each one. They offer a variety of volunteer positions working with cats, dogs, and other small animals.

{Honolulu Zoo

The zoo is a great place to get experience with a large variety of wildlife and animals of many different shapes and sizes. Honolulu Zoo also offers many different opportunities including volunteering at the clinic with a veterinarian. If you are interested, e-mail Barbara Thacker at bthacker@honzoosoc.org.

{Oahu SPCA

Oahu SPCA is an animal shelter in Kapolei that takes in many cats and dogs that are stray or have been surrendered and place them in a loving home. The link above will take you to a form to register to volunteer.

{The Wildlife Dolphin Foundation

Help out various marine biologists and conduct marine research on the local dolphin population. At the same time, enjoy getting hands on experience identifying different dolphins gain knowledge on conservation.

{Hawaii Wildlife Fund

Work on one of the many wildlife conservation projects with this organization. Help watch and conserve the Hawaiian Monk Seal and the various sea turtles of Hawaii.
