Charles Reid Portrait Unveiling

Aloha everyone! Join us for a special event on Tuesday, September 29th at 3:30 pm in the Agricultural Sciences Lobby—the Charles Reid Portrait Unveiling!

“Dr. Reid was the “Hollywood Veterinarian” who served as the veterinarian caring for animal actors on television and movie sets in 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Dr. Reid regularly attended the annual meeting of the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association. While attending the HVMA meeting, he was befriended by Dr. Bob Nakamura, the veterinarian in UHM and CTAHR’s Department of Animal Sciences. Dr. Reid became more involved in the UH Manoa Pre-Veterinary Program, meeting with the Pre-Vet students on his last visit to Hawaii in 1978. Upon his death in 1979, the proceeds from the sale of Dr. Reid’s house in Hollywood, established an endowed scholarship at UH Manoa for Pre-Vet students. The first scholarships were awarded in 1982, and since then over 250 scholarships have been awarded, amounting to over $500,000!”
