We are excited to announce the opening of our new Bachelors of Arts (BA) degree in Public Health at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa.
For those of you who may be less familiar with our program, we define public health as health promotion and disease prevention. Whereas a physician or nurse may work one-on-one with a patient, public health provides a more macro-scale approach and focuses primarily on population and community health. Public health is a wonderful career option by itself, but is also an excellent complement to career in medicine, nursing, or law (just to name a few). It also provides students with a concrete set of practical skills they can use moving forward, or apply to a more theory-based major such as psychology, biology, or Native Hawaiian studies.
For exploratory students, and as a first step to our major, we offer an Introduction to Public Health course (PH 201), which will be offered this coming Spring semester Tuesday/Thursday 9:00am - 10:15am, and during Summer Session I.
If you have any questions about our degree program including the classes we offer, degree requirements and/ or about the field of public health in general, please feel free to contact either our recruitment advisor, Dr. Denise Nelson-Hurwitz at firstname.lastname@example.org or our undergraduate advisor, Michelle Tagorda, at email@example.com. To make an advising appointment with Michelle, please visit http://phadvising.appointy.com.
We wish you the best in your academic journey!
