Research Integrity
Welcome to the Office of Research Compliance Research Integrity Program. Our office addresses allegations of research and scholarly misconduct through the implementation of University of Hawaii Executive Policy E5.211 and in accordance with federal regulations.
We are available to respond to questions regarding possible fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, and other forms of misconduct, such as:
- abuse of confidentiality;
- property violations;
- improprieties of authorship;
- misappropriation of funds;
- violation of generally accepted research practices;
- failure to comply with federal, state, or university regulations related to research; and
- conduct that violates research and scholarly ethical standards.
We address allegations through a confidential three-phase process involving assessment, inquiry and investigation. Allegations must meet specific criteria prior to moving to the next phase. Five-member Review Panels comprised of University faculty and staff members evaluate evidence and make formal recommendations related to determinations of misconduct. The University Vice President for Research is our current Deciding Official who issues final determinations on a case-by-case basis.
