Living the Art of Hula

Kennedy Theatre
An enlightening evening of performance and conversation with key figures in the Hula community. Kumu Hula Michael Pili Pang will host a “hula talk story” about Hapa Haole Hula. Joining him in the discussion and showcasing of hula of the time will be hula dancers Leimomi Maldonado, Kanoe Miller and their groups along with radio personality and creator of Territorial Air Waves, Harry Soria, Jr.

Jimpu Kai USA invites you to celebrate its 40th anniversary with Du usami: The Journey, a voyage into the heart of Okinawa’s artistic traditions. Guided by Artistic Director Cheryl Yoshie Nakasone, Du usami: The Journey features a transformative, magical array of Okinawan dance, music, and kumiwudui, the classical dance-drama of the Ryukyu kingdom.

Ike Hana I + Culinary Celebration

7:30pm | The first of two finale concerts featuring our resident guest artists: Ka Pa Hula O Kauanoe O Waahila under the direction of Kumu Hula Maelia Loebenstein Carter, Kanokupolu Dancers, dancers of Tonga under the direction of Cotton Robusta Siale and guidance of Her Majesty Queen Nanasipauu, and Korea National University of Arts (K-ARTS).
5:00pm | Join us before the Ike Hana I concert for an evening honoring food and culture throughout Asia and the Pacific featuring the delicious creations of local chefs, including dishes from Chef Lee Anne Wong, Mark Noguchi, Hide Sakurai and others. Must be purchased in combination with an Ike Hana I concert ticket.
