Okinawa Governor Visits UHM

Okinawa Governor Hirokazu Nakaima visited UHM during his recent two-day trip to Hawai‘i. On November 9th, the governor and his entourage paid a call at the Center for Okinawan Studies, which is the only one of its kind outside of Japan. There he was greeted by UHM Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw, as well as the staffs of the Centers for Okinawan Studies, and Japanese Studies. He offered the support of Okinawa Prefecture for the Center’s activities, and invited Chancellor Hinshaw to visit Okinawa. Governor Nakaima and his staff were in Hawai‘i to hold talks with officials of the Pacific Command regarding the status of U.S. forces in Okinawa.
