Position Announcement: Graduate Research Assistantship Spatial and Temporal Modeling
Overview: Funding for a M.Sc./Ph.D. graduate research assistantship is available through the Department of Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences, University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Research assistant will aid in accomplishing the grant objectives related to spatial and temporal modeling of agroecological function. Under faculty supervision, duties will include, but not be limited to, coordinating project activities, conducting spatial analyses of agroecological datasets, working with field data to calibrate and simulate soil function with models such as DAYCENT, use daily spatial data to drive agricultural crop models, and contributing to manuscript and report writing. Position involves working with an interdisciplinary team.
Job Description: 0.5 FTE, 11-month appointment, with compensation paid out in bi-monthly installments over a period of 12 months. Salary: $1,996 monthly, plus fringe (pay step 10: $23,952 annually). Funding available through June 30 , 2025 pending satisfactory performance and progress toward degree.
Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in from a four-year accredited college with experience in spatial programs (ArcGIS, R, or others) and modeling. Acceptance into the Graduate Division, University of Hawaii, in a program deemed related to the area of investigation (including but not limited to Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Computer Science). Desirable Qualifications: Working knowledge of ecology, soils, and biogeochemistry. Having excellent people and writing skills. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Research interest and experience in indigenous crops and cropping systems and agriculture. Previous coursework and/or experience with Hawaiian studies, Hawaiian language, and chemistry.
Monthly Salary: $2,246, plus fringe. Funding through May 15 , 2022 pending release of funds and satisfactory performance and progress toward degree.
