HONOLULU — Consumers Digest Magazine announced a correction of their "Top 50 Best Values for Public Colleges and Universities" that appeared in their May/June 2004 issue in which UH Mānoa ranked at No. 5 on the list. The corrected list, which is included in the July/August 2004 issue, indicates that UH Mānoa placed at No. 22 out of 50 public colleges and universities.
Consumers Digest printed the following explanation for their error of the "Top 50 Best Values for Public Colleges and Universities" list:
"In the complex sifting of the data upon which the rankings were based, a faulty sorting process occurred involving one column of the numbers versus other columns/data. Due to the nature of the error, the calculations used to produce the rankings were completely thrown off."
Consumers Digest ranked 50 public and 25 private colleges and universities out of some 3,500 schools across the United States. The magazine indicated their regret of the error. The corrected list can also be found at www.consumerdigest.com.
