Display Educates Travelers on Endangered Native Birds

Airline passengers can learn more about Hawaiʻi's endangered native birds while awaiting out-bound flights at the Hilo International Airport, thanks to the work of students at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo's School of Business. Students enrolled in the summer class in Sustainable Tourism prepared an educational display, which informs and educates travelers about Hawaiʻi's extinct and endangered birds, ways to learn more about conservation and preservation efforts, as well as opportunities to participate and contribute to the Hakalau Bird Refuge. Class activities included a presentation by Jack Jefferey of the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife and a bird watching field trip with the nature-based tour company, Hawaiʻi Forest and Trails.
