The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Foundation has named Dr. Lori Ideta, interim vice chancellor for students at UH Mānoa, as a “Pillar of the Profession” for her work in the student affairs and higher education community.  NASPA is the leading association for the advancement, health and sustainability of the student affairs profession and provides professional development, advocacy and research for 15,000 members in all 50 states, 25 countries and 8 U.S. territories.

Ideta has been with the university for nearly 25 years, serving primarily in student affairs. As interim vice chancellor for students at UH Mānoa, Ideta directs the Student Affairs division that includes the Office of the Dean of Students; Enrollment Management; and Student Equity, Excellence and Diversity.

“Dr. Lori Ideta has dedicated her career to advocating for our students at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa,” said Chancellor Robert Bley-Vroman. “This is a well-deserved honor for Lori and it's great to see her accomplishments recognized on a national level by NASPA. Her commitment to higher education and ensuring that our university supports diversity and social justice exemplifies what it means to be a Pillar of the Profession. We are extremely proud of our colleague for receiving this honor.”

The Pillar of the Profession award honors individuals who have served as teachers, leaders and scholars in the field who:

  • Sustained professional distinction in the higher education field, as defined by donors and supporters.
  • Served in leadership roles in NASPA, either regionally or nationally.
  • Are recognized or remembered by colleagues, friends, students or student organizations for extraordinary service.
  • Have made significant lifetime contributions to the higher education field.

Ideta has been an active member of NASPA, serving as a member of its board of directors, a regional director, program reviewer and presenter. She will be honored at the 2016 NASPA Annual Conference in Indianapolis.
