The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's Colleges of Arts and Sciences are pleased to present the Universal Values for a Democratic Society --Nisei Veterans Endowed Forum Series. The forum theme is "Insuring National Security, Preserving Democratic Values."

The forum will feature a special presentation of A Tradition of Honor, a powerful documentary that reveals the compelling accounts of Japanese-American veterans who risked their lives during World War II at a time when America questioned their loyalty and imprisoned their families. Produced by the Go For Broke Educational Foundation, the film has more than 40 oral histories.

Guest speakers Yoshiaki Fujitani, Ted Tsukiyama (Military Intelligence Service), Edward Ichiyama (442nd Regimental Combat Team), Tokuji Ono (100th Infantry Battalion), and Fuku Tsukiyama (Internee) will each address questions moderated by Christine Sato-Yamazaki, President of the Go For Broke Educational Foundation.

The forum will also feature student essayists in the 2004 VALUES FOR LIFE Essay Contest. First, second, and third place winners of the statewide contest will be announced and each student will read his/her prize-winning essay.
