WINDWARD CC - The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle (LKOC) recently donated $6,000 to fund scholarships at Windward Community College. This gift will be awarded to students during the 2014-2015 academic year.

“Preserving, protecting and enhancing our environment are all important to the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle,” said Lyn Turner, Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle president. “Supporting students with scholarships at Windward CC who could have a direct impact in environmentally or agriculturally based careers is our best hedge for future generations.  We also enjoy getting to know and encouraging ‘our’ students,” she continued.

This new gift will support existing LKOC scholarships at Windward CC: the LKOC Environment Studies Scholarship and the WCC Agriculture Scholarship. To date, the LKOC Environment Studies Scholarship, established in 2010, has awarded $7,000. The WCC Agriculture Scholarship was established in 1993 and has awarded a total of $24,000 in scholarship support.

“While the cost to attend any of our community colleges is highly affordable at $3,000 per year, many of our students struggle dearly to pay for tuition, books and fees,” said Windward Community College Chancellor Doug Dykstra. He continued, "The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle scholarship is critical to the success of our students and we are very grateful to the LKOC members who help to raise funds and direct them to us for our students."
