Pondering law school and wondering whether it is right for you? Not sure how to take the first step?  These questions and many more will be topics discussed during Pre-Law Week on the UH Manoa campus this week.

A series of free workshops will begin on Tuesday, September 18, at the William S. Richardson School of Law.  The events will take interested persons behind the scenes for an inside look at what law school is really like. Learn how to prepare for the dreaded LSAT exam and hear from a panel of current law students.

Admissions Director Elisabeth Steele Hutchison and Pre-Law Advising Center Director Ruth Bingham have organized the events to teach people how to navigate the application process. Among Steele Hutchison’s advice:

Admission to the Richardson Law School is based on three things: highest LSAT score, undergrad GPA, and one-third “everything else," which includes transcripts, résumé, personal statement, and two letters of recommendation.

Become familiar with the LSAT test:  It makes a big difference between doing well and not doing well.  Take practice LSAT tests under timed test conditions.  Plan to take the actual exam once.  It is expensive. (Kaplan Test Prep and the University of Hawai‘i Alumni Association are sponsoring a free practice LSAT test event Saturday, September 29, from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.  Info and registration at: http://bit.ly/HawaiiPracticeFall2012.)

File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as quickly as possible on January 1, 2013.  UH meets the financial requests of students based on need and order in which forms are received.  Funding can run out.
