The public is invited to meet students from Nanzan University in Japan at the “Nanzan-Japan Expo!” on Wednesday, September 7 in the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Campus Center 301 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Food sampling, Yukata photo opportunities, a Tohoku tsunami/earthquake update and cultural displays will be part of the festivities. Parking is $3.

Ten students from Nanzan University are visiting the UH Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College campuses from September 5- 9 for intercultural engagement and exchange. Hosted by UH Hilo’s Division of Student Affairs and Linguistics Department and Hawai‘i CC’s Hawai’i Lifestyle Program, this program helps to support one of the priority goals of the new UH Hilo Campus Strategic Plan by promoting multicultural fluency through exchange opportunities.

Students participating in Nanzan’s Good Practice program will attend classes with UH Hilo students to learn about the U.S. academic education, visit with Ke Kula ‘O Nawahiokalani'opu'u to learn about the Hawaiian language immersion, and gain hands-on cultural learning of hula and farming. During their visit, the students will work on research projects with UH Hilo students. The culmination of the Good Practice program will be in October when five UH Hilo students and one faculty member visit Nanzan University where they will collectively present their projects.
