UH Mānoa’s Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work is the recent recipient of approximately $270,990 from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to fund the continuation of its Hawaiian Learning Program.  Kupuna Lynette Paglinawan and Kumu Malina Kaulukukui are faculty leaders of the Hawaiian Learning Program.

The grant covers a three-year period and is designed to open doors to careers in social work for Native Hawaiian and other students. It assures the building of a workforce to meet the needs of Native Hawaiian and other under-served populations.

“This award is crucial to the School establishing a Hawaiian place of learning and training students in social work that is anchored in Hawaiian knowledge, values, and practices,” said Dr. Noreen Mokuau, Dean of the School of Social Work. “The School is committed to global social justice, with a focus on Native Hawaiian and other indigenous perspectives in social work, and educates social workers to provide the highest quality services to the diverse communities in Hawai‘i. We are deeply appreciative to OHA for their support.”
