UH Community Colleges honors Chancellor's Award recipients

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai‘i announces its recipients of the University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service. The award recognizes a faculty member or civil service or administrative, professional and technical (APT) employee for outstanding demonstrated work performance, service, leadership and fostering of excellence in higher education.
 
Jodi Mine is the recipient of the Hawai‘i Community College Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service. Mine is the budget specialist in the Office of Administrative Affairs. She is always willing to share her knowledge of the Business Office functions and consistently provides valuable insight and assistance. Mine also finds time to contribute her invaluable talents by sewing items such as sashes for the Hawai‘i Life Styles Program, and crocheting lei each year for the student recognition and graduation events.
 
Zane Nedbalek is the recipient of the Honolulu Community College Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service. Nedbalek is a research support specialist in the Educational Media Center. His outstanding work performance and dedication goes beyond expectations. He was instrumental in opening the new Hawaiian Center and in the creation of the New Essentials Curriculum Lab. Nedbalek’s willingness to work through roadblocks and find ways to provide service with a “can-do” attitude has made him a key employee.
 
Leah Lei Agustin is the recipient of the Kaua‘i Community College Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service. She is the secretary for the director of the University Center and Academic Support. Agustin began her career at Kaua‘i CC as a student employee and has been a staff member for almost 20 years. She has continuously demonstrated a professional work ethic and has made significant contributions to the college. Countless faculty, staff and students have benefited from her diligence and service, and she inspires everyone around her.
 
Ron Felipe is the recipient of the Leeward Community College Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service. Felipe is the copy center manager and is working at his “dream job,” which is evidenced by his work quality and ethic. He has excellent customer service skills and provides exceptional service to the campus community. Felipe takes an active interest in making the college a better place and has organized events, such the Summer Student Help Activity day. Felipe’s contributions are above and beyond his job responsibilities.
 
Evelyn Wong is the recipient of the Leeward Community College Chancellor’s Outstanding Lecturer Award. Wong has been an accounting lecturer in the Business Division since January 2005. She brings much outside work experience and “real world” teaching knowledge to her students. Wong is an organized instructor, always helping students and never hesitates to help others. Her teaching excellence is evident from her positive peer and student evaluations, and she has been described as “one of my best professors” and the “perfect teacher.”
 
Georgette Tanaka is the recipient of the University of Hawai‘i Maui College Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service. She is an office assistant in Admissions and Records and handles multiple aspects of the student admission process, including assistance with New Student Orientation, international students and Veterans Administration. She juggles many duties and responsibilities, yet completes each task accurately and with a smile on her face. She is enthusiastic, dependable, gets along with everyone, and always gives more than 100 percent.
 
Susan Ma is the recipient of the Windward Community College Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service. She is an IT specialist in Academic Computing Services. Ma has provided quick and courteous front-line support for Windward’s academic and institutional computing services and is adept at handling a wide range of software problems, malware infections, and hardware failures. She consistently extends herself beyond what is expected to train and mentor staff, offering workshops and one-on-one assistance.
 
These individuals will be recognized for their achievements along with other UH award recipients at the annual Convocation ceremony to be held September 27, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Kennedy Theatre on the UH Mānoa campus.
