HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i Foundation and the University of Hawai’i Alumni Association (UHAA) are pleased to announce that Alvin Katahara has been promoted to associate vice president of alumni relations and UHAA executive director. In this new leadership position Katahara will guide the efforts to provide alumni relations programming and communications to all alumni and friends of the 10 University of Hawai‘i campus system. The goal is to enhance the life-long relationship of these constituents with their campuses and the UH administration and build affinity.
Katahara joined the University of Hawai‘i and the UH Foundation in 2009 when he was hired to serve as the director of annual giving for ‘Ahahui Koa Ānuenue (AKA). His role was later expanded to include serving as the University of Hawai‘i Na Koa Football Club’s executive director. In these positions he coordinated the football booster club’s membership drive and fundraising activities. He also coordinated and developed an annual giving campaign that supports and raises funds for all athletics programs. Prior to this he worked at The Honolulu Advertiser as the director of marketing and new business development.
Katahara is a proud UH Mānoa alumnus and holds degrees in marketing and management.
The University of Hawai‘i Alumni Association (UHAA) promotes and supports the University of Hawai‘i by connecting alumni and friends with the university and with each other, strengthening stakeholder relationships in the community, and inspiring pride among the University of Hawai‘i ‘ohana.
The University of Hawai‘i Foundation, a nonprofit organization, raises private funds to support the University of Hawai‘i System. Our mission is to unite our donors’ passions with the University of Hawai‘i’s aspirations to benefit the people of Hawai‘i and beyond.
