Electrical engineering society honored again

UH Mānoa’s Delta Omega Chapter of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), the electrical and computer engineering honor society, received the Outstanding Chapter Award at its annual banquet earlier this month.

 

This is the fifth year in a row that the UH Mānoa chapter has won this award, recognizing its contributions to the electrical engineering department, university, and surrounding community.

 

Only 23 out of 175 active university chapters received the Outstanding Chapter Award for the 2009-10 academic year. HKN is a 106-year-old honor society for electrical and computer engineering students and professionals with more than 250,000 members. The UH Mānoa chapter was established in 1963 by Emeritus Professor Kazutoshi Najita.

 

"Our honor society prides itself on instilling the qualities of academics, character, leadership, and service in all of its members" said Bao Jun Lei, the 2009-10 chapter president who led the activities that resulted in the latest award.

 

Christopher Manloloyo, the chapter vice president, added, "HKN alumni from our chapter have gone on to become recognized leaders in the business and academic communities."

 

In related news, HKN recognized Lei as one of the top five graduating seniors in electrical or computer engineering in the nation for the 2009-10 academic year. Previous winners of this award include UH Mānoa alumni Kendall Ching (2001), Aaron Ohta (2003), and Blaine Murakami (2005). Monte Watanabe won an honorable mention for this award in 2007.
