Board of Regents extends M.R.C. Greenwood's appointment as UH president

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents today extended UH President M.R.C. Greenwood’s appointment for an additional three years, to run through July 31, 2015.

 

Board of Regents Chair Howard Karr noted that Greenwood has steered the UH System during a time of drastic budget cuts, while moving forward on critical projects, ranging from major research initiatives such as the UH Cancer Center and the proposed Thirty Meter Telescope to securing a bright future for the University’s athletic teams in the Mountain West and Big West Conferences.

 

Further, Regents praised Greenwood’s proactive role convening of the first Hawai‘i Higher Education Summit last fall, and this month’s highly successful symposium on innovation. Co-sponsored by the UH and the National Academies, last week’s symposium produced a proposed action plan to improve Hawai‘i’s economy. The Regents also singled out Greenwood’s ongoing contributions as an active member of the Host committee for the important 2011 APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) Meeting in Hawai‘i later this year.

 

“We believe Dr. Greenwood has demonstrated her effectiveness and her commitment to UH. The Regents are confident that the University and the State of Hawai‘i will benefit from her continued leadership,” said Karr.
